Offsite

Privacy Policy

Effective 30 August 2026

Offsite keeps your notes and links locked until it can verify you are away from places you chose. To do that it needs to know where you are. It does not send that anywhere.

The short version

Offsite has no account, no server and no analytics. Your notes, links and lock zones are stored only on your phone. Your location is read on your device, compared against your saved zones in memory, and discarded.

The one thing that does leave your phone is the map. When you look at a map inside Offsite, Google draws it, and that request goes to Google.

Information Offsite stores

All of it stays on your device, in Offsite's private app storage:

Android's automatic backup is switched off for Offsite, so none of this is copied to Google Drive or to another device. It is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its data, and once it is gone it cannot be recovered — there is no copy anywhere else.

Location

Offsite requests location permission because the whole app depends on answering one question: are you outside your lock zones right now?

Google Maps

Offsite uses the Google Maps SDK for Android to draw the map when you create or view a lock zone. Drawing a map means asking Google's servers for it, so when a map is on screen, the area being displayed is sent to Google. If you tap "use my current location", that area is centred on where you are.

That data is handled by Google under Google's Privacy Policy, not by Offsite. Offsite receives nothing back except the map image itself.

Offsite also uses Google Play services to obtain location readings from the device. This is an Android system component and is covered by the same Google policy.

The in-app browser

Links you save open inside Offsite rather than in a separate browser. When you open one, you are visiting that website normally: it can set cookies, run JavaScript, and collect whatever it would collect if you had opened it in Chrome. Those sites are not operated by Offsite and their own privacy policies apply.

Cookies set this way are stored on your device so that sites you sign into stay signed in. They are removed when you uninstall Offsite or clear its data.

What Offsite does not do

Children

Offsite is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Your rights

Because nothing leaves your device, there is no account to close and no data of yours for us to hand over or erase. You have direct control: uninstalling Offsite, or clearing its data in Android Settings, permanently deletes everything it holds.

Changes to this policy

If Offsite ever starts collecting or transmitting data — for example if a future version adds advertising — this page will be updated before that version ships, and the effective date above will change. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
